Out With The Old, In With The New

On May 13, 2026, Kevin Warsh was confirmed by the Senate as the new chair of the Federal Reserve. The vote was divided almost perfectly along party lines (CNBC).

As Trump’s pick for Fed chair, Warsh is widely expected to work to lower interest rates, although he has vowed to maintain the Fed’s independence and not be swayed by outside political pressures. Trump has been calling for lower rates for a while now, and has expressed dissatisfaction with the outgoing chair Jerome Powell’s lack of action on this front. Powell will remain on the board of governors for a while longer due to an investigation surrounding renovations made to the Fed’s offices. Powell has promised to stay out of the limelight as Warsh takes over, but it is undeniably a unique situation that no Fed chair has had to deal with for over 75 years (CBS).

However, we at Reveille believe that it may not be so easy for Warsh to lower interest rates. Managing Partner Stephen Weitzel discusses this perceived difficulty in a recent YouTube video - click or tap here to watch
