Fed Raises Rates

Federal Reserve Raises Rates For First Time In Three Years
On Wednesday, September 16, the Federal Reserve decided unanimously to raise interest rates for the first time in three years, bringing the benchmark rate to between 3.75% and 4%. It is believed an additional rate hike could come later this year. The decision was made in response to higher inflation, driven in part by the ongoing war with Iran (NBC). Stocks fell after the announcement, and President Trump took to social media to express his displeasure at the decision. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh expressed that “inflation is too high and has been for too long,” and that the Federal Reserve remains committed to bringing it under control, regardless of pressure from the president (ABC).
What does this rate hike mean for you and your investment portfolio? Broadly, borrowing costs are likely to increase for things such as credit cards, car loans, and mortgages. In a recent episode of The Million Dollar Question, Managing Partner Stephen Weitzel discusses this latest Fed decision and how it could impact your investment decisions. Click or tap here to watch.
